Notes from the Weekend
21 Sep
I can survive a Sunday without coffee. I really, really can! (Not intentional, mind you. I just never had the chance to grab a cup of joe!)- Powerful messages delivered with intentional worship will jack. people. up. (nuf said)
- Volunteers are amazing in what they will do to serve.
- Volunteers need clear objectives. Many times I don’t need to define the path… just the objective. When I fail to define the objective, I simply fail.
- This week I’ll sit down and flesh out a growth plan for a jr volunteer that I recently removed from my team. He wants to return but I need to see changes in him. I’m excited for what this could lead to. A process of time involving different people that will spend time with him to talk about heart issues and his relationship with Christ. If he submits to the process, the potential for transformation is rich.
- Did I mention 4 worship experiences without a drop of caffeine?
- Led a group of 5th & 6th graders through conversation about carrying burdens. Over half the group carries the weight of their parents divorce. How do we help them learn to let go of their parents baggage?
- We’re not seeing our normal upswing in volunteers this season. This is normally a time when we are swimming in volunteers and trying to make sure they are equipped and trained. Yet in some experiences it still ‘feels’ like July and everyone is still on vacation. Why? Something to investigate.
Many things to learn from. Many things to change. Yet all of it bigger than me. Feeling the pressure and fighting the urge to own it all. Yielding myself and the challenges to God is the most difficult, refining… yet most rewarding action to take. Prayer is much appreciated.

Gina- I was referred to your website by my friend Sam Luce. I love how simply you put things. Let me tell you, the last bullet is something we are dealing with here too. I want you to know that I am reading your blog and praying for your ministry. Thanks for sharing!
Gina,
I am going to admit that this idea of sharing the recap out in the public blog area that you do is something I am going to copy, just thought I would tell you.
I have always had a recap but the power in sharing out like you do as opposed to sharing behind the curtains like I have been doing was incredibly powerful for me.
So thanks for sharing public it has stirred me to do the same. Now off I must go to post my recap.
Teri, thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your thoughts.
Todd, I’ve learned the same. I enjoy the recap now b/c it’s the first step to ordering the chaos in my brain after the weekend.
There is no growth without pain. No change without loss. No loss without grief. No grief without pain. Lead change with kindnes. Requoted from Rick Warren via Mandy…love it and love you too! Have a wonderful retreat!
well miss inspiration… Interesting thoughts… You went the whole day without coffee?!?!? are you sure… it’s ok it was still pumping through your veins I think you are about to start internally making coffee, its kinda like breathing
your thoughts about your jr CM & clear objectives makes me think…
Have FUN!!!
Gina,
Thank you for being open and honest. I will be praying for your ministry. Part of this post struck close to home…”feeling the pressure and fighting the urge to own it”. I have been talking to myself for days on this subject. I have a Great God who will handle the growth needs, the volunteers needed and on and on. I just need to rest in His promises.
Thanks again. I have been blessed and encouraged by your thoughts.
