It’s the Little Things in Life

18 Jan

Enjoy the little things.  One day you may look back and realize… they were the big things.

I love this quote.  I have no idea who coined it.  But I love it.

It’s easy to overlook the small things.  The everyday moments of life that are so routine we just gloss right past them.  Yet it’s in these patterns of life that our faith is lived out.  These daily rhythms shape the faith of our kids.  That’s easy to miss.

Teaching parents how to lead their kids spiritually has more to do with making the most of everyday moments of life.  Especially in the early years.

Many times in kids ministry we focus more on the elementary years because this is a stage that kids really begin to respond to the gospel message.  We understand that preschool kids need to hear about scripture.  We know that certain biblical truths about the character of God are learned in these early years.  But aside from board books & Veggie Tale videos, there aren’t a lot of tools out there that equip parents to teach their preschool age children about their faith.

Recognizing this need, the reThink Group has designed a tool called Preschool Parenting:  Create a Rhythm Event.

The Create A Rhythm Event is an exciting experience that shows parents how they can create a rhythm each week to build their child’s relationship with God. You, as a leader, are provided with hands-on ideas to introduce them to Play Time, Bath Time, Cuddle Time and Drive Time. Deuteronomy 6 tells us as parents to talk about our relationship with God as we do simple, routine activities with our child. This event illustrates to parents that no extra time is needed in order to create a rhythm in their home enabling them to shape their child’s faith.

Leading parents to create habits of sharing their faith through everyday activities is easier done earlier than later.  This is a great tool to catalyze your preschool parents down that path.

In honor of #orangeweek, the reThink Group has given me a copy of Preschool Parenting to give away.  Though I believe it’s well worth the $39 investment, I’d love to get a free copy in your hands.

So, if you’d like a free copy… here’s what you do:

  1. Find my tweet announcing this giveaway on my Twitter page here OR my Facebook page here
  2. Retweet the message on Twitter OR post the message on your Facebook status
  3. Leave a comment below with the name of the friend that referred you… In other words, how did you hear about this blog post?

(If you’re not on Twitter or FB, you’re still eligible to win.  Just leave out the Twitter/FB info.)

The person’s name listed the most in the comments wins.

There weren’t a lot of redundant names below so I changed my plan.  Using Random.org the following name was chosen…

Jeremy Davidson!!

Hope you enjoy the Preschool Parenting tool!

I happened onto your site today. I am a new Family Pastor looking for training and resources and this looked like a great place to stop and look around. We use ReThink materials with our ministries and this new piece looks really interesting to me.

Been slacking on my own blog, but finally getting back into things. Dropped by your blog and saw the give-away. I have recently taken over being Director of Children’s Ministry at my church (shoalcreek.org) and we’ve added the reThink curriculum to our program. Would LOVE the preschool book! So one vote for me, Eric Haynes!

If I say it again — Eric Haynes — does that give me a second vote?

EricHaynesEricHaynesEricHaynes…I suppose that is stuffing the ballot box…
