Great article Gina. I think many parents ignore the little moments in life that leave a lasting impact on our kids. With four kids and coats and diaper bags, there have been a couple of times when something has gotten buried on the bottom of our cart and we didn't notice it until we got out to the car. Each time, no matter the temperature, or weather or where we need to be, we always take those things back into the store and often get the same reaction you got. A look that indicates "I can't believed you bothered" and/or "this makes more work for me, I hope that makes you feel good." :) I try to take the kids with me though when it happens. I want them to understand that when we have integrity in minor circumstance, we will find it much easier to exhibit integrity in harder situations.
