Casing the Joint

23 Jun

Want to know my favorite weekend activity?

Stalking parents.

You see, we’re challenged at times with parents opting to take their kids to Big Church rather than bringing them to kids ministry.  This happens for a variety of reasons.  I even had one parent tell me she had no idea (after 3 months!) that we have a place specifically for her 3rd grader.  (Say What!!)

So I like to stand in the back of the worship center as people file in for the service.  As I see parents walk in with their kids I sit back and wait for them to take a seat… then I strike!

Okay, maybe I don’t strike.  But I do take that as an opportunity to introduce myself, talk to the kids and tell them a little about what we have for them.  Give them a glimpse of some of the fun they can have when they come visit.

Personal invitation.  Low pressure.  Personal connection.

It’s fun.

My Favorite Travel Apps

9 Feb

Traveling today from Little Rock, AR to Knoxville, TN. There are a few iPhone apps that I love to use when on the road.

* Starbucks: of course, we need a way to find the caffeine. This app is excellent for identifying the store nearest you

* Target: when you need emergency supplies this app has a solid store locator. Wal-Mart has one also but not very reliable.

* WordPress: Let’s me update my blog when I’m away from the computer. Like now. :)

*Sit or Squat: Great way to find restrooms on the road. You can add restrooms you find and rate their quality. Help a sister out and tell me where the clean restrooms are!

* Facebook & Tweetdeck: ‘nuf said

* Maps: because I stink at navigating. :)

* Around Me: helps me find anything from Gas Stations to Restaraunts.

* MobileRSS: to keep up with my favorite blogs

* Kindle: so I don’t have to pack books

* YouVersion: it’s my Bible
