Help Us Get to Mexico!
Can I be totally transparent?
I should have posted this 2 months ago. But fear got in my way.
A year ago I sat down with our Missions Pastor at FaithPromise and shared about Beth Guckenberger. I had the privilege of hearing Beth’s story at a leadership event I attended. I learned that her ministry in Monterrey, Mexico serves the under-resourced through orphan care.
The approach is simple. Restore the heart of the orphan through 5 points of care: Social, Physical, Emotional, Educational, Spiritual. Beth says it so much better than I do. So listen to her for a minute.
At the end of July the McClain crew is headed to Monterrey, Mexico to work with Back2Back Ministries. We’re excited for our kids to serve by our side and to experience missions in a way that they can digest. Back2Back Ministries offers missions experiences for families with kids as young as 8 years old. They are intentional as they help kids and adults digest their daily experiences through devotions and group sessions.
If you ask me what to think… well, I don’t really know what to think. This whole thing is a series of ‘firsts’ for me. I’ve never been on an international mission trip. So the only thing I know to expect is to have my reality wrecked. And part of me is looking forward to that… while part of me is not.
At the beginning of this post I told you I should have posted this 2 months ago but didn’t out of fear. I don’t think I can be more honest than that. You see, the cost of sending our entire family on an international mission trip is pretty high.
Like, $1000 per person high.
I don’t know about you… but our family budget doesn’t generate that kind of cash.
I should have begun the campaign to raise the dollars 2 months ago… but I didn’t. I was afraid.
Afraid that others would not be able or willing to donate money in order for us to go on this trip. In fact, I’m still afraid of that. And I truly can’t justify the fear… I can only say it’s there.
So here we go… we’re embarking on two crazy adventures. The first is an 8-week marathon to raise $5k. The second is a 7-day reality wrecking experience that will be a rally point for our family as we open ourselves up and allow God to use us in a new way. We don’t know where He’ll lead us from there, but we’re willing to take this first step.
